PayPal vs Payment Gateway Method
An alternate method of taking online credit card payments is to use PayPal as the payment processor. PayPal has no annual fees, charging only a set %age per transaction.
However, if you are considering PayPal you need to be aware of the following:
- PayPal has very strict security that has on occasions rejected credit cards that were valid.
- Some customers may get confused with the PayPal process where it can look like you need to join PayPal to complete a transaction, which is not the case.
- Once you have received funds into PayPal you are required to manually move the funds to your bank account which can take 3 – 5 days.
A number of our previous Customers have commenced with PayPal only to change to eWAY after their site has gone live and customer feedback has been received.

Merchant Facility: If you have opted to go with the Gateway / Merchant Facility, leave yourself plenty of lead time as previous experience has shown it can take up to 4 weeks for the bank to approve your merchant application.
We recommend using the Gateway / Merchant Facility method for trouble free and easy transactions as your Customer is NOT redirected to any other payment page and therefore remain on your website and in your control throughout the purchase process.
However, if cost is an issue, PayPal is free and fully compatible with the Magneto platform.
